Cummins New Concept of Non-road Power Transmission System

March 13, 2017

Cummins first launched a new concept of non-road power transmission system for the future in 2017 ConExpo, adapting the trend of energy diversification, complement between alternative energy and diesel, providing non-road equipment customers with more choices of power transmission solutions. As a century-old company with leading diesel engine technology, Cummins will continue to develop more powerful, more efficient, lower-emission, lighter-weight power products after launching the 2019 Stage V, which meets the lowest emission standard for non-road engines today, meeting the needs of non-road equipment customers.
The future development and utilization of new energy will provide non-road customers with more options, including diesel, renewable energy, natural gas, gasoline, hybrid or power products. Cummins is investigating and making new attempts. Power transmission system and vehicle electrification can meet many needs of customers, including strong power, fast response, time saving, efficient work, low fuel consumption, less emission (including carbon dioxide), comfort and low noise, etc.
As non-road equipment load and work cycle is different, any “one size fits all” power transmission program is not enough to meet their needs. Cummins has tried more new concepts of energy use, to provide more choices for non-road customers in a more economical way by many years of experience in system integration and accumulated experience in the highway and off-highway markets, such as alternative fuel, parallel hybrid power, extended range, and pure electric power.
Meanwhile, data transmission and human-computer interaction management functions are becoming increasingly important for future non-road power transmission systems. It is beneficial to optimize asset management, increase productivity, release the potential of a variety of power transmission systems by inputting acquired base data into intelligent devices, and help operators to gain a deeper level of business and achieve more cost savings.
For example: with the use of wireless remote control technology, a loader can optimize engine system’s immediate response function, remote adjustment specifications, adjusting the settings according to actual working conditions (site road construction or site handling), achieving the best balance between productivity and work efficiency.
