Requirements of Cummins Engine Fuel, Lubricating Oil and Coolant

March 15, 2017

1. Fuel: Cummins engine uses 0 or lower temperature high-quality light diesel oil, as the use of higher temperature fuel will clog the filter to make the power drop, make the engine start difficultly. It is needed to drain the water in the fuel filter after work, regularly (250h) replace the filter, if the fuel is dirty, the filter will be blocked in advance, making the engine power drop.
2. Lubricating oil: the viscosity should be in line with SAE 15W40, quality in line with API CD or higher level, regular (250h) replacement of oil and filters is necessary. CF4 or higher level of oil must be used in the plateau where engine combustion deterioration and quick oil pollution will occur; the oil below CF4 level cannot be used for more than 250h, the oil more than the life will make the engine cannot be normally lubricated, aggravating the wear, causing the early failure.
3. Coolant: Use water filter or add DCA dry powder as required to prevent corrosion, cavitations and scaling of the cooling system. Check the tank pressure cover seal and the cooling system for leaks, ensuring that the boiling point of the coolant does not decrease and the cooling system is normal. Ethylene glycol and water coolant or factory approved antifreeze should be used in the cold areas. Periodically check the DCA concentration and freezing point in the coolant.
